Optimising your site to get Google sitelinks

In August 2011, Google announced update on the way Google presents Sitelinks as “Sitelinks will now be full size links with a URL and one line of snippet text-similar to regular results.  Google sitelinks are a collection of links which appear under the result of any website and these added links are connected to the main pages of the website.  These links are randomly and automatically selected by Google’s algorithm.

The way Google displays results for strongly branded websites changed dramatically.  The display then changed from the very traditional title tags, meta descriptions etc to a mega display that results in the same title tag and meta description of the homepage plus the expanded site links in which the site links now include the title tag and meta description of the subpages.
Sitelinks are restricted to appear only for general search terms.  You will get sitelink if you search for “Nokia” but you won’t get sitelinks if you search for “Nokia mobile phones.”

It is learned that Google uses the first level links of any website for the Sitelinks.  This is an indication that all the links which are not visible on the homepage of your site will not be used as sitelinks.   The links should be descriptive textlinks or image links with a descriptive IMG ALT attribute.  Javascript or Flash links are not included in for Sitelinks.  Google uses around two to eight links for the sitelinks of a website.  It is unfortunately unclear how Google assigns the number of links to each website.

Yet despite these limitations organizations such as Makshi Infotech do make use of the provision to optimize the sites via Google Sitelinks.
